Radio Communautaire Missisquoi (CIDI99.1FM)
THE NEXT STEP
RCM now faces the challenge of planning, carrying out and completing the second stage of the project, which involves the installation of a more powerful transmitter to reach a wider area. Technical studies must be carried out, cost estimates prepared, and a critical path schedule determined for the engineering and construction work.A plan is in preparation to mobilize the community support and financial resources needed to implement this next stage of the project. These are among the tasks required for RCM to request the renewal of its broadcasting license by the CRTC and by Industry Canada in the fall of 2009.
Staff and additional volunteers are being recruited to undertake these tasks as well as to operate the station, and to produce and present programming. RCM will have to organize a membership drive, sell more advertising, and communicate with the groups, individuals and institutions in the area that constitute CIDI’s client base. Their interest, involvement and support for CIDI’s activities are of critical importance to the station’s success.
During this period, CIDI will continue to study how best to expand its broadcast area even wider to cover all of Brome-Missisquoi, its full intended market area. CIDI envisages a staged build-up during its first two years of operation, after which it hopes to begin the process of expanding eastward to complete its coverage of Eastman, Magog and Mansonville by deploying micro-transmitters or repeater towers.
“Being Who We Are” is the foundation on which CIDI 99.1 FM has been built; it is RCM’s ongoing commitment and the rationale for its existence. Thanks to continuing community participation and support, the original dream is now being realized.
RCM acknowledges with deep appreciation the dedication of the group of volunteers who have brought our new community radio operation to fruition over the past decade.
