The Sherbrooke Record
a re-print from “The Record”

I finally got off the couch and went back to the studio this week, feeling refreshed. Thanks Tanya. That was some party we had at CIDI wasn’t it? At the moment we have a total of 14 original shows rotating on the CIDI program grid. Not bad for the little station that could. And, we’ve only been operating for five months.

I would like to thank all of my volunteer hosts for showing up on time and putting in a superb effort each week. Without you we would not have a special voice, one that reaches out, independent of all others. Our own voice.

CIDI is being who we are, and for those who don’t understand, I suggest they listen to 99.1 FM. There, they’ll find people having fun, experiencing life with an increased level of self- confidence. They’ll become infected with the positive energy of real people expressing themselves openly for the world to hear. I love it.

When people enjoy being who they are it creates an opportunity for others to share with them their feelings and to become inspired themselves. This is how we at Radio Communautaire Missisquoi (RCM) are helping build a strong, vibrant community, one motivated person and organization at a time.

There is something to be said about hearing ourselves on the radio professionally produced. It’s a confidence booster for sure After all, it’s all very recent, and few people in our community believed that it would ever happen at all, which lends the situation a certain element of surprise. This in turn translates into confidence. It’s not a matter of “yes we can”, but of “yes we are”.

We are broadcasting and changing lives. It’s a good feeling to know this. Since we started broadcasting there has been a steady stream of volunteers coming to the station providing hosting, construction, office and technical services. To date, we have around 80 volunteers. Needless to say they all share the same feelings and emotions when it comes to community building.

“Being who we are” is a from-the-ground up process. Everything that we want to do in our lives requires confidence. Some things, for sure, are more difficult than others to achieve, but the change one has to go through to accomplish a goal is the object of RCM’s concern. When our community feels good about itself then positive things begin to happen, and when we turn on CIDI we reinforce the belief we have in ourselves.

It’s imperative that RCM communicate its objectives clearly and simply to its volunteers and community. We all have to understand what it is we are doing and why, when it comes to moving the company’s agenda forward. Radio is a big part of RCM, but so is TV, events promotion and production. With a dedicated volunteer staff, made up of professional technicians, artists and business people, in addition to the novices who are eager and willing to learn, RCM is producing a media image of its community that looks and sounds great. Within a relatively short time, we are already beginning to see positive results. It’s actually working! What a feeling, what a rush.

Once again we invite you to participate in a great new beginning. We always want to hear from you, because, after all, we are here to serve the community. We’re only a phone call away, you can reach us at 1-888-539-2098 or 450-242-9873. Become a member and volunteer. Come and express yourself, make some new friends, and most of all, it’s really a lot of fun!
