The Sherbrooke Record
a re-print from “The Record”

Radio Communautaire Missisquoi celebrated the new year with a live broadcast and party at the CIDI studios last weekend. This will hopefully become an annual event, with musicians playing live and volunteers schmoozing in the corridors and backrooms. Everyone at the station these days is up about the incredible year we’ve had building community in the Ville de Lac Brome area.

Developing the arts has become a reality for RCM, and now that we have a world-class piano, an operational radio station, website (rcmmedia.org) and TV show (Stop!), our tool chest is filling up. Tools are important, but second only to great volunteers. Equipment is useless if there is nobody to run it.

We would like to thank all of our hosts, producers, technicians, management and members of the board of directors for making RCM a dream come true. Now, Brome Missisquoi and Shefford, in us, have a tool they can use to help develop their communities. For the moment CIDI 99.1 FM is RCM’s flagship, a bearer of good tidings shining the light of the Townships on our area and the rest of the world. And, we have to recognize the potential that is actually within our reach.

Creation is what RCM is all about. It produces events, radio, TV, ads, websites and music, for its community and the rest of the world. But, RCM can’t build anything unless it’s in tune. Being who we are is an ideal that requires regular maintenance and resonates with success, abundance and happiness. When was the last time we had a tuning?

Just as a garden needs tending and care in order to flourish, so does our radio station require care and attention to detail in order to grow and be productive and successful.

We don’t believe in saying oh, that’s good enough, we’re just a bunch of amateurs and volunteers. The fact is that within our group we are very fortunate to have so many dedicated and truly talented people. After all, we may be new to running a radio station, but we all have a background and expertise in something: business, public relations, sales, sound engineering, computers, electrical installations, website designs and so forth.

Everyone contributes what they can to the best of their ability. We complement each other and work as a team. This is what’s helping our garden grow and expand. We held our New Year’s Eve party so we could get together to thank our volunteers and share the experience with our listeners as well. So please share your interests with us, and get back to the garden for the benefit of the entire local community.

Send us an email or give us a call, or come visit us at the radio station in Knowlton. We want to hear your opinions and suggestions and play the stuff you want to hear. You can also become a member of the team if you want to do a show or help out on the technical side. We welcome one and all, because first and foremost it is YOUR radio station, serving the community, promoting local businesses and events and bringing you what want to hear, because at CIDI we are just being who we are.
